No password prompt at Windows login screen? After installing Windows 10 updates, you may find the option to sign in with Microsoft account password is no longer there, and only Windows Hello Face/PIN/Fingerprint/Security Key are available.
Microsoft has been pushing Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on Windows 10 computers for eliminating passwords. If you would like to log into Windows 10 with a traditional password, here is how you can get the missing password sign-in option back to the login screen.
How to Fix: Windows 10 Password Sign-in Option Missing
- Press the Win + I shortcut keys together on the keyboard to open the Settings app. Click on the Accounts category.
- Choose the “Sign-in options” tab. On the right side, turn off the “Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts” option so that Windows 10 will not restrict Microsoft accounts to use Windows Hello sign-in only.
- Log off your account or restart your computer. You’ll notice that the missing password sign-in option is back and you can now log in to your Microsoft account with a password instead of Windows Hello.
If you couldn’t log in with any sign-in options, you can use a bootable PCUnlocker CD to reset your forgotten Windows 10 password or create a new admin account. Once logged in, you can set up different sign-in options from scratch.
